Fix Dead Pixels!

I recently bought a new monitor, 19" LCD flatscreen, needless to say, I was psyched, I got home, put it on my desk, powered it on, connected the DVI cables and powered it on, and there it sat, like a big giant pimple on the face of my monitor, a bright red dead/stuck pixel. Stared at it, considered taking it to the store, but its just one dead pixel and I figured I could live with it. After a while, I couldn't, so I scoured the web, googled for a while, and found something that actually worked, it completely removed my dead pixel off of my monitor. So I'll post exactly what I did so that others can fix theirs aswell.

Things you'll need...

Dead Pixel Fix Video (MP4 Format, quicktime should do it), it basically flashes colors over your dead pixel.

A damp cloth

Patience..

Step 1) Locate your dead pixel, should be easy to do, just run different colors over it until you spot one.

Step 2) Have Quicktime, or any any MP4 playing program ready, set it to loop, and place it OVER the dead pixel.

Step 3) This one is a bit interesting, you know how you have something on a glass window? A smudge, well, take the wet cloth, and rub the dead pixel like you'd rub a smudge on a window, keep doing this while the MP4 video is playing behind it.

There are risks to this method however, for instance, you run the chance of creating MORE dead pixels on your monitor, its a risk you'll have to take in order to rid yourself of those annoying spots. It seriously took me about five minutes to get rid of the dead pixel. Hope this works for you as well as it did for me.

RIAA Rant

We all know that the RIAA, which apparently is trying a little too hard to protect the profits and salaries of artists all across the industry, but I really have to ask this, can it really be done another way? Does this company have to resort to suing individual users and pretty much putting them in such financial disarray that some, if not most of them, would be paying their court fees clear into their forties, and Im not talking about the adults whom were sued, no, Im talking about the children, 11, 12, and 13 year old school children whom probably didn't know any better, shared their music library online and is now hit with a $120,000 USD, to $300,000 USD fine.

My personal rant is this, its never going to go away, its never going to stop, it's like trying to piss a forest fire out, as long as there are willing people, it will always be. So why can't these people, business men, corporate leaders and the like, figure this crap out? It's not rocket science, it's not an out there, above your head theory. So anyway, they finally attack Limewire, sure, good target, thousands of gigs of music being swapped like some internet black market, it was about time they did it, but really now, too little too late? You take out one application, three more pop up, blah, I guess as long as people vote for ape looking republicans, there will always be idiots out there running companies who are too busy ruining people's lives then go and take care of the issue at hand.. I don't know, I'd like to hear from the people that actually do come across this blog, that's why Im going to open it up so that anyone can come in and comment, voice their opinion, and share ideas of this issue, hell if it goes somewhere, I'll do it more often...

P.S. ..I went searching for a graphic to use with this blog post, apparently I couldnt find an appropriate one, they all dealt with terrorism and nazism and all types nasties..-sigh-

The Blunder of Winrar

The makers of WinRar thought it clever to host a special offer for the users of WinRar, a free, registered, legal download of Winrar to any users whome registered at their website. However, it became quickly clear that Rarlabs would run into some problems, particularly around their webserver, in the mad rush of users to gain this rare prize, the website got hit, hard, and taken down due to traffic, a note on their webpage stating that it would not come back up untill the following day, the 30th, when the special was over. Being as they should have kept their word, the download will be upped on my blog, with the registry key, this is perfectly legal due to the fact that the key is EXACTLY the same for EVERYONE...

Simply unzip the contents and install Winrar, then navigate to the installation directory and copy the .key file into that directory. If this does violate some remote law, it will be removed immedialty..

Thehotfix.net Stupidity...

Ok, I've come to find that the internet, especially the beta scene, is like a school-yard playground. You have your smart people, those whom generally like to help out, you have your nerds, whom like to dwelve into one particular subject completely, and pay little or no regard to other's contrasting opinions. The bullies (Trolls), whom think they can dictate and attack anyone with little or no warrant. The foreign exchange students, whom for some unknown reason, they cannot formulate a single English sentence and are usually sporting a retarded sense of humor. Then you have the dumbasses, whom like to fake things, brag about how they have this and this before anyone else, only to find out their lying their asses off...

It's obvious, thehotfix.net is the dumbass of the beta playground. Writing a news story about sporting the final build for Windows Live Messenger (Formally MSN Messenger 8.0). Even stating that they have said build and are ready to distribute it. Then magically, a passworded .rar file appears on the web sporting the internal name of Install_Live_Messenger.exe*. This of course is hosted on Demonoid.com, and in my opinion could very well be a staged leak by the said dumbasses. They put the file up on their forum, coincidentally, in a members only restricted zone, of which requires *gasp* a subscription fee.

So here we sit, ontop of a passworded .rar file, which is most likely to be a fake installation file, thehotfix.net is even stating that they are experiencing slight down times as the load on their servers from everyone visiting the website to get the build increases. Now, this is coming from the same website that sports Windows XP SP3, which Microsoft themselves recommends not to install, so there you have it. The true labeled, dumbass of the beta playground.

*Could be a different name, I don't really know, nor do I give two shits about what it's actually called...

Moving In...!

Well, Carrie and I moved in to our apartment yesterday. Honestly it went better then expected, with a good 80% of our belongings moved on the first day. We went one night without internet, however we set up our networks so that we could swap files from PC to PC. Things are going to be really comfortable, considering I get decent hours, so I wont have to work two jobs. The apartment is quite bare right now but considering the bills are light the first month..(Practically non-existant, yet we still need to get the rent out first of July), we'll be able to get things for our apartment. :)

Well....work was good..& other things

Hm, well I started my training for work, went over really well since the training took place for about an hour, then I worked normally, learning as I work. It's really easy and the managment is excellent. I can deffinatly do this for eight hours a day, since the three hours flew by like it was nothing.

Anyways, onto the other important stuff, the possibility of moving in much sooner than expected and still have everything turned on and available. How? Well, as I was walking up to work (In the rain, damn rain) Matt saw me and stoped, offered me a ride to Arby's, which I accepted, considering I'd rather be thirty minutes early then arrive soaking.

We started talking about the apartments and he mentioned that whenever we are ready, he would bring the paperwork by and let us pick out an available one bedroom. I told him that Carrie and I just needed to save for the security deposit. He replied with "Oh, well you can set up a payment plan and not have to pay the security deposit up from, we can break it down and tack it onto the rent." I'm completely psyched about that, not only will we be able to move in much sooner then I previously thought, we could do it with all of our utilities on, and still have enough time to save up for next month's rent!

Also, with the possibility of him breaking the security deposit down ALOT, we could already have part of next month's rent already saved up, or use what we saved to get things switched on! :D

Whoo..New Post!

Refresher for those who has read my blog in the past.. (Not many..) and those few who read my livejournal. I've decided to start mirroring posts between Blogspot, and Livejournal. Only reason is, because I personally prefer Blogspot over Livejournal, and I'd like to keep my Livejournal updated. So after this, my blog, especially this one, will become more active.

Yay - 3 Days Remaining

Well, let's see, three more days untill I leave Maryland and head on a little vacation with Joe, Carrie, and Katie. Excited, but not nervous, thought I'd be more nervous. Spent a good few days getting my stuff together for the trip, which will include two blue bins, and one backpack filled with stuff I'd like direct access to. I'm going to blog right down to the morning of the last day. :)

Ironically my mother and I mended our problems with each other, yet the main reason Im hitting the road and moving out is my sister, whome remains a bit more.. Yeah. I love hear dearly, but we don't get along too well. My mother's concern over not having a PC has been fixed, she gets a PC from the school. I guess she's done alot for them, and they've done alot for us, and will probably continue to do so untill we stop going.

I'm excited to see Carrie, her and I get along pretty well and we've had a good solid (Long distance) relationship, and I figure if it can work out this well over 500+ miles of space between us, our relationship will probably flourish when we are close to each other. We understand each other and know what ticks one another off, and thats the main reason we've been doing so well.

As for what I'm doing at the current moment, let's see. I spent a good three hours (Holy Crap!) Maconizing my desktop with Joe, which was entertaining. Now I'm listening to some net radio and blog hopping. :)

Alot of changes, mostly good.

Well you know what happens when I don't post in a long time? Everything changes, thats what, and for the better too. I'll get started with the biggest thing thats happening to my life. I'm moving to Buffalo, staying with my girlfriend and her very kind family (10 damn hours drive to go on vacation and get me, nicest people on earth award there). It culimnated from a fight with my sister and mother and finally sitting down and coming to the revelation that I needed to strike out on my own, my life was dull and I need a good adventure, something I can tell stories about in the future. I believe this will happen soon, very soon. So Carrie, her sister, and her brother-in-law are coming down and picking me up, then taking me on vacation with them, and then finally resting up in Buffalo. YAY. :D

Another thing, I decided to start working on a Windowblinds 5 theme, toiled with it, and released version 0.1/0.2 of it and it was recieved VERY well, people loved it. So I continued my work and poped out Version 0.3 about twenty minutes ago. :) Let's hope thats recieved as well as the earlier versions.

Ubuntu 5.10 + VMWare Player = Totally free

Well I'm glad this finally happened. Riding on the trend of Ubuntu Linux's totally free and open sourced approach, the guys over at VMWare put up a webpage linking not only to an already installed and ready to go Ubuntu 5.10 build, but the free VMWare Player to use it on. Making Ubuntu easier to use and totally free for XP and Linux users who do not wish to risk a full system install. I haven't given it the run through yet, but I'm excited to get started with it, as I've been looking for a way to run Ubuntu on VMWare easily for quite some time.

To get started, all that you need to do is download the pre-built Ubuntu Linux Install, then the free VMWare Player. This is only recomended for broadband users, as the Ubuntu image is well over 500MB, and the VMWare Player weighs in at 20MB. You can find the website containing the official information here.

~Update~

As some of you might already tell, this is extremely outdated, please refer to the update post located here.

Meh... Update

Hmm, well here I am, updating my blog again. Haven't done so in a while. I've been trying to get a few things taken care of here, like trying to figure out how Im going to get up to buffalo with my PC in October, and what to get Carrie and when to send it. I've already picked up her gift, all I need to do is send it somehow.

This entry is basically a filler until I find something remotely interesting to write about. Vista testing seems to have come to a halt due to incompatibilities with my Monitor. I'll have to figure something out with that.

Ah and I finally got that little Nintendo wifi stick so I can get online with my DS. Darn best 40 dollar investment I've made yet. The DS is even better then it already is when it's online. :) Well I'll start writing my news stories sooner then later and hopefully I'll be more active in my blog from here on out.

Screwy Weather Strikes Again

Well yeah, here it is, 60 F, warm, balmy and nice, the next day its 30, with snow warnings coming in everywhere. I'm used to winter, typical winters, where our area usually gets about 20 inches of snow per winter, and temps hitting 20 above zero at the lowest.

Now we have a winter where we get 50 as the normal, then 60 to 70 as the heat wave in January, and Febuary. To be honest it's totally screwed up, and it was sudden to. I have no idea weither or not its Global Warming, or some other force of nature at work.

My girlfriend felt the same kind of bizarre weather pattern, but she's up in Tonawanda/Buffalo area, so they are used to having snow pretty much all the time in winter. The past few weeks they're temps have been in the 30's to 40's and even 50's in some areas, now its down to 10's and 20's with snow on the ground.

Anyways, my gripe is that something is seriously wrong with the weather patterns, and cueing into the extreme hurricane season we had, for the first time we not only ran out of hurricane names, but we reached up to Zeta as a tropical storm. Also the freak storms, Hurricane Katrina, and Rita which battered the Gulf of Mexico area.

I've been saying this time and time again, we are going to have an interesting summer, since tempatures are naturally warmer, so warm that spring growing fruit have began to blossum, and Robins appear in December. We are going to see a summer unlike we have seen before, it's safe to assume that it will be hot as hell.

"Oops, I went and shot myself a Republican"

As if it couldn't get worse for the Bush administration, another blunder comes rolling around the corner. Dick Cheney, the hardliner Vice President of the United States of America shot his fellow hunter in an accident. Seems pretty innocent right? Well then why did he wait 19 hours in order to inform the press? Was he waiting for him to die or something? Was he not going to tell the public if his hunting partner died?

To be honest, the way the story made it to the press was one of the most irresponsible plays of the Bush Presidency. Giving permission to a civilian to break the news story to a local paper, 19 hours after it happened. You think there would be some kind of rule against this sort of thing? Regardless of weither or not the guy comes out of it alive, although a sincerely wish he does, there will be an investigation into weither or not there were safety violations. We shall see soon enough.

Also, usually my sister does real life stories, I might start doing some of them on my own, as I want to take up a news posting position at my friend's forum. I used to do news at IeXBeta, before they drove me completely insane and I bitched out the admin. So yeah, incase you read this, I'll do the news for you in a week or so.

Woot, Writing interesting stuff this time!

Well, I've decided to stray away from Vista as my blog would make even the geekiest individual fall asleep. Instead I'll write about life.. and the other stuffs that happen.. Which there isnt much at all since I am currently off a semester whilst sorting out financial issues, and looking for a better job..

Well the blizzard, hit everywhere but here, personally I'm glad considering I don't do well in snow at all. As for Valentines day.. eh.. I sent my girlfriend and e-card, aside from that I dont have the means to get Carrie anything.. I wish I could send her a box of chocolates..-ponders-..

Mm.. Stirfry.. with noodles!

Yes, yuminess in a ... noodle form. I'm totally nuts about oriental dishes, particularly stirfry.

Well, I must be going, I'll be back to write in more detail when Im not burning my food. :D

Windows Live Messenger & Other Crap

Woot, havn't posted in a while, but here I am.. posting.. o.O

Anyways, let's see.. Catch up time.. Ah yes, Windows Live Messenger's face lift, the ugliest thing I've seen this side of Windows since Wincustomize's Theme Marathon..-shudders- uhh...

My sister got herself a blogger.com account, I'll be posting that up in my "Friend's blogs" section, and I know I'm kicking myself in the nuts, but I doubt my g/f reads my blog. I got her a little web email card thing.. ._. -cheap-

Oh, and I finally got comments unmoderated, except now there is a word verification. Hopefully that'll cut down on the spam I get in my comments..fucking money hungry weazles..

Windows Vista Febuary CTP Coming

Well its that time again, unfortunatly, time for another beta to test out. Heard from various sources that this build is feature complete, yet I have no idea what the Febuary build could be. Hopefully they'll replace a bunch of cosmetic features, for instance, the boot up screen. Oh well, MS is being very tight lipped about what is actually going to be in Vista.

Running IE 7 Beta Locally

I've encountered this little trick from time to time but got lucky when I found it on a particular forum, so since it was really hard to find I thought I'd share it with you guys here. :)

1. Extract all the files from IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe in one folder using WinRAR.
2. Delete: folder, update and files, ie4uinit.exe spuninst.exe spupdsvc.exe install.ins

3. Create a new empty text document and rename it to iexplore.exe.local

4. Done! Run iexplore.exe

I will not provide the beta 1 for Internet Explorer so if your not in the beta, you'll have to get that on your own.

Dead Ram = Vista On Hold

Yep, read right, I lost some of my ram, now I'm down to 512MB. Which isnt a big hit since it was only 128MB that went bad, but I'm holding off all the same untill I can install another 512MB stick and bring it up to 1GB. It'll deffinatly help out in more things. Also spent about an hour bringing the computer back from the dead. Since the dieing ram hit it in the worst way.. (Hanged bootups after reinstall, applications failing left and right, slow computer speed..). However all is well at the moment, althought this computer has become more for web surfing use then gaming use, thats perfectly alright for now.
